Nuestra propuesta fundamental se concentra en la esterilización temprana, sostenida, permanente, gratuita y a ritmo de campaña para felinos y caninos, dado que se actúa sobre la causa, impidiendo el nacimiento de nuevos ejemplares, y se promueve una alternativa humanitaria al favorecer la salud de los animales: previniendo enfermedades de transmisión sexual entre los animales, transmisión de parásitos, mordeduras, focos de rabia, heridas por luchas territoriales, etc. De este modo, se mejora sustancialmente la relación que los animales establecen con su entorno, tanto animal como humano -deteniendo la producción de hormonas sexuales, el animal tiende a mejorar su conducta, disminuir los niveles de agresividad si los tuviera, no escaparse y no luchar por el territorio ni por la reproducción-.
By adopting the sterilization approach it is possible to abandon the extermination and collection of animals approach because of its proven unsustainability, inefficiency, cruelty and anachronism.
Many animal health institutions, international animal or environmental organizations, among others, promote sterilization as an effective method to control animal overpopulation and the subsequent consequence of abandonment. This method is applied in animal shelters or in surgical operations at little or no cost to the population. This last aspect is very important, because it requires a strong policy of implementation and citizen involvement, with emphasis on responsible pet ownership and the search for better coexistence between people, animals and public health.
The SalvaVidas mass sterilization program is part of a global project, whose central idea is education, technical-veterinary training, prevention of abandonment, overpopulation and zoonotic problems.
